An online mob has been threatening to kill Barbie, the popular doll and pop culture icon.
In an unprecedented move, an anonymous group on Thursday posted a video threatening to “cut Barbie’s head off” and “kill Barbie and her friends” if the internet community does not stop its campaign.
Barbie has received a lot of backlash in the past few months for her image, but she has also been a target of cyber attacks and even death threats.
In the video, the anonymous members of the group threaten to kill the doll and her family, according to The Times Of India.
The group claimed to have hacked Barbie’s Twitter and Facebook accounts, and also uploaded a video on social media showing the doll being dragged from the family home, the newspaper reported.
The threats are part of an escalation in cyber-bullying campaigns against the iconic doll.
Last month, a group of teenagers in the US posted a photo of Barbie with a swastika and the words “stop bullying” on it.
The online threats are a major setback for Barbie, whose popularity has soared over the past several years.
She was also a major figure in the recent movie “Despicable Me 2,” which has been widely condemned by critics for glorifying racism and anti-Semitism.
The video also threatened to “steal Barbie’s virginity,” the newspaper said.
