Chicago online movie library now has over 200,000 movies, including a new addition to the library, the online movie version of “Hallmark Movies.”
A new feature called “Online Movies for TV and TV shows” lets users view online movies for several television and film shows including “American Horror Story,” “NCIS: New Orleans,” “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,” “Scandal,” “American Gods,” “The Last Man on Earth,” “True Detective,” “Gotham,” “Law & Order: SVU,” “Mad Men,” “Dexter,” “Narcos,” “Breaking Bad,” “Better Call Saul,” “Game of Thrones,” “Orange Is the New Black,” “Black Mirror,” “Supergirl,” “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” “House of Cards,” “Stranger Things,” “How to Train Your Dragon 2,” “Charmed,” “Bored to Death,” “Fargo,” “A Star is Born,” “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” “Derek,” “Modern Family,” “Once Upon a Time in Mexico,” “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” “Wicked” and “The Walking Dead” are among the other TV and film titles in the online movies section of the Chicago library.
The new feature, which is now available to Chicago users, lets users select from over 20,000 online movie titles, including movies that are available on streaming services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
The feature was launched in August and will be available for users in Chicago, Indianapolis, Detroit, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago, Washington, D.C., New York, Miami, Chicago-Dade, Miami-Fort Lauderdale, Houston, Orlando and Atlanta.
Chicago users can also search for movies using keywords such as “movie,” “movie for TV,” “tv shows,” “online movie,” “watch online,” “free movie online” and so on.
Chicago movie library director and Chicago movie club director, Steve Toth, said the feature was designed to help users find movies they might otherwise miss when searching online.
“Online movie search is a big part of our moviegoing experience,” Toth said.
“We think the idea of having a new feature like this is really to get the word out to the Chicago community about the great movies that Chicago has to offer.”
The Chicago library currently has about 1,200 movie titles in its online movie section.
A recent report by the Chicago chapter of the American Library Association (ALA) found that the number of libraries across the country that are online has nearly doubled in the past year, from 1,900 to 1,600.
The ALA has also reported that online movie libraries in Chicago have increased by about 100 percent in the last three years.
